Bill Harrison

Bill was born and raised in the Baltimore, Maryland area. His interest in Square and Round dancing began at the age of 7. After dancing for a number of years, Bill's interest became more apparent that he would some day like a try at calling. In 1970 he began calling and then attended a summer caller’s school conducted by Mac Parker, thus beginning a career in calling. Attending many seminars and colleges, to name a few, Earl Johnston and Al Brundage in New Hampshire, Mac Parker’s caller school, and Cal Goldens in Arkansas, for which Bill received a scholarship to attend.

A dream came true in 1985. This was the year he decided to make calling his full time profession.

Bill maintains a full program at home that includes clubs in the Southern Maryland, Baltimore, and Northern Virginia areas. These clubs range from Plus to Challenge 2 for a total of 5 clubs and reserves one night a week for lessons. Currently he has been teaching new dancers in conjunction with a teaching council for the past 2 1/2 years using the multi cycle program. Besides the home program, Bill travels just about every weekend. His travels have taken him to 44 states, 3 provinces of Canada, England, Sweden, Denmark, New Zealand, and Japan. He has been featured on many festivals throughout the country and several caller’s seminars and weeklong schools. Bill has appeared on NBC's Today Show with Willard Scott. This special appearance was a promotional for Square Dancing.

Since 1972 he has been a member of NCASDLA his area caller association and CALLERLAB since 1977. Bill is currently on the Board of Governors of CALLERLAB and will be serving on the Executive Committee for his first time in 2008. Has been past Chairman of the Career Callers Committee, Advanced Quarterly Selection Committee, Vice Chairman of the Advanced Committee and is currently Chairman of the Advanced Committee. He is currently serving on the Mainstream, Challenge, Application Review Committee, and Program Policy Committee. Over the past 20 years he has recorded for square dance labels such as Red Boot, Pioneer, Kalox, Lou Mac, JoPat/ESP, and special guest on Global Records. Bill currently records for ESP records.

The greatest enjoyment in his chosen profession is the friends he meets in his travels, along with the entertainment and never ending learning of the choreography involved with the business. Friends set to music, what more could one ask for!
