Special Dances

Cast Off 8's enjoy square dancing and travel, far and wide, to follow their passion. We travel as a club as well as individuals. Below are some of the special dances and events that we have enjoyed. We recommend the list to our club members, as well as, to all square dancers.

The 16th Canadian National Square & Round Dance Convention in London, Ontario, Canada July 17, 18, & 19, 2008 is a cross the border dance which you will enjoy. Two years ago six of our club members attended the dance in Montreal, Que. and we had a great time even thought it was a very hot weekend. There were callers from all over Canada and the US - even guest callers from England and Japan. For further information please go to the convention web site www.swosda.ca/2008.

A special Advanced Blitz Weekend with Ken Ritucci in Manchester, NH September 26-28, 2008 is a weekend designed to introduce Plus Level dancers to the Advance Level. Ken Ritucci is the Cast Off 8's club caller, so we can testify to his teaching skills. This weekend is an intense workshop environment designed for dancers who want to learn the Advance Level and for those who want a refresher course. For additional information click on Blitz Weekend Flyer or send an email to Ken Ritucci. To give a square dance friend a dance Flyer, just click on the above and print.

The 18th Annual Tumbling Leaves Festival in Bennington, VT October 17, 18, and 19, 2008 is a regional dance which has been well attended by the Cast Off 8's and is highly recommended. This year there will be a 6th caller and a full Mainstream hall added to the dance. The dance level will be Mainstream through Challenge. For additional information click on Tumbling Leaves Festival Flyer or send an email to Red Bates. To give a square dance friend a dance Flyer, just click on the above and print.

The Maple Sugar Dance Festival in South Burlington, VT is a dance the club has supported and enjoy for many years. The dance is put on by the Lake Champlain Squares. Well, the next dance is the 40th and will be held March 13 & 14, 2009. The weekend begins Friday evening and continues thru Saturday. The dance level is Class (easy Mainstream) through Challenge, something for all dancers. Next year's group of callers come from far and wide: Bill Harrison from Cheltenham, Maryland; Steve Kopman from Knoxville, Tennessee; John Marshall from Sterling, Virginia; Don Moger from Montreal, Canada; and Dave Wilson from Boda, Sweden. The Cuers are Rick & Rosina Wagenhoffer from Valhalla, New York. For more information call (802) 865-9715 or (802) 868-9086.

The 51th New England Square and Round Dance Convention in Sturbridge, MA April 24 & 25, 2009 is a regional dance. The club has gone to this convention as a group and have enjoyed the dancing for many years. The Caller & Cuer list is an international list and quite large, so I will not repeat the list. For further information go to the dance web site www.nesrdc.org.

The 33nd Vermont Square & Round Dance Convention in Barre, VT May 16, 2009 is a state dance featuring area callers and cuers. The dance begins on Saturday afternoon and continues throught the evening after a 2 hour dinner break. There is a Trail-in Dance Friday night 7:30-10:00 at the same location called by Al Monte.
